Artists, activists, and scholars have responded in diverse ways to the devastation of Hurricane María, a category four storm that made landfall in Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017. In this presentation, Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes addresses the poetry and blog posts of Mayra Santos-Febres and Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro, Sonia Fritz’s documentary Después de María: Las dos orillas, and the collaborative Listening to Puerto Rico video archive.

Presenter:

Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes is associate professor of American Culture, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the acting director of the Latina/o Studies Program (2018–19).
