Concert III will feature the last numbered symphony of Robert Schumann, who was the major inspiration to our final feature composer Johannes Brahms. Brahms, like Dvorak, owed much of his fame to another composer. For Dvorak it was Brahms who was patron and supporter. For Brahms it was Schumann who was his guiding champion. We culminate our season with the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms. Many regard this Requiem not as a Requiem for the dead, but rather an affirmation of life for the living. We will close our 2017 season with its message of love, forgiveness, truth, and peace.
Robert Trevino, conductor
Brian Kontes, bass
Amanda Pabyan, soprano
