Dr. Masiki will discuss his experience as a Fulbright
Scholar in Panama where he taught expository writing and U.S. literature.
Arriving at the Universidad Autonoma de Chiriqui as an educator and ambassador
of U.S. literature and culture, Dr. Maski learned many lessons from his
Panamanian students and colleagues about African American and Afro-Latino
intercultural affinities. They taught him about Panama’s national and regional
traditions and how the intersection of race, gender, and class shaped their
lives and ambitions.
Dr.
Trent Masiki is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana
Studies at Dickinson College. He received his Ph.D. in Afro-American Studies
from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He holds an M.F.A. in Creative
Writing from Emerson College-Boston, an M.A. in English from Texas A&M
University-College Station, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Southern
University-Baton Rouge. His current book project is The Afroethnic Impulse
and Renewal.
