Wunder von Bern)
Prisoners
of war are finally allowed to return to West Germany after a decade in the
Soviet Union. Among them is the father of a young soccer fan, Matthias, who has
been “adopted” as mascot of the local soccer star, Helmut Rahn. Through his
passion for soccer and his fighting spirit, Matthias rekindles a love of life
in his dad’s heart. As the World Cup begins in Bern, Switzerland, they hope for
a miracle occur—a victory for Helmut Rahn and the West German team. Winner of
six awards, including best picture at the German Film Awards.
